Transport Fever 3 map size calculator
Compare the land area of two maps before starting a new save. This Transport Fever 3 map size calculator uses kilometre dimensions, with official standard-size presets and a heightmap grid estimate.

Your planning result
Selected map area
Both maps have equal rectangular area.
- Reference map area
- 67.11 km²
- Area relative to reference
- 1 ×
- Area change
- 0 %
- Map perimeter
- 32.77 km
- Corner-to-corner distance
- 11.59 km
- Width grid vertices
- 2,049 pixels
- Length grid vertices
- 2,049 pixels
Calculation method & limits
Map area = width × height. The comparison divides area by the reference map area; equal area does not imply equal shape. Perimeter = 2 × (width + height), and the diagonal uses the rectangular distance formula. Heightmap vertices cover a four-metre grid: round kilometres × 250 up, then add one corner. The pixel estimate alone does not validate an importable heightmap.
Compare layouts with the Transport Fever 3 map size calculator
A Transport Fever 3 map size calculator makes the difference between side length and land area visible. Doubling both dimensions creates four times the area, while doubling only one creates twice the area. That matters when planning a network that must connect distant towns, not just when looking at the map selection label. Use official standard-size presets or enter custom dimensions, then compare against a reference map you already know. The map size calculator describes geometry; it does not promise a particular frame rate, town count or playable terrain layout.
How to use this Transport Fever 3 calculator
- Select a standard map size and aspect ratio, or type width and length in kilometres. The preset dimensions come from the official map-size table rather than the rounded label displayed during setup.
- Choose a reference map or enter its dimensions. Keep the same orientation when comparing long-side distances. The Transport Fever 3 map size calculator shows area ratio and diagonal distance separately.
- Use the area comparison to judge the scope of your planned network. For a heightmap, treat the grid-vertex numbers as an initial geometry check and then consult the official import-resolution table.
A worked planning example
The official Small square preset is 8.192 km by 8.192 km. Its rectangular area is 67.108864 km², shown as 67.11. Keeping length unchanged and doubling width to 16.384 km produces 134.217728 km², twice the reference area. A four-metre heightmap grid across the small square requires 2049 corner vertices on each side. Actual map terrain, water and network distance can make two equal-area scenarios operate very differently.
What to do with the result
The map size calculator helps compare construction scope without treating geometry as a performance benchmark. A long narrow map can encourage a trunk corridor, while a square map leaves more directions for connections. Inspect mountains, water crossings and town locations after generation. Larger area is not automatically better for a beginner network. Keep the same seed and generation settings when you want to compare reproducible terrain scenarios, and verify the game-generated map itself.
Calculator questions
Does this Transport Fever 3 map size calculator generate map seeds?
No. It compares map dimensions and area. A seed is meaningful alongside climate, generator and setup settings; this calculator does not claim to preview or validate a seed's terrain.
Are all map presets available on consoles?
The official manual limits console maps to Small, Medium and Large. Very Large is included as a standard PC geometry reference. Check the current platform documentation before selecting a size in the game.
